Backpack Press will bring you chapbooks the old fashioned way. They won’t be listed on Amazon. They won’t be sold to big chain bookstores. They will pushed by the writers and myself and word of mouth.

They will be available for purchase through this website and on the street.

I’ve really been weighing the decision whether or not to purchase ISBN numbers. I know not doing it is frowned upon in the publishing industry, but keeping with the spirit of all of the projects I do, I’ve decided to keep rolling as I have been and not buy them.

This means they will probably not be listed in the Library of Congress. This means bookstores and libraries won’t be able to look up a number and find the book listed.

What I find myself with the opportunity to do, though, is make sure the writer’s work is more than just a number, and assure the readers they are more than just customers.

This press is about getting work into the hands of the readers in a personal, intimate way.

Most of us are here, online and in the underground, because we either can’t get picked up through the mainstream publishing industry or find it’s too difficult to get our feet in the door. We write and publish because we believe in the work….not the money or to get on the best sellers list.
